On Wednesday 12 June 2024, Missy Decor hosted a special evening, showcasing Missy Decor’s newest mid-century furniture collection. At our gallery in Primrose Hill, the event attracted design experts, industry insiders, and art enthusiasts alike, creating a vibrant atmosphere of creativity. The evening was more than just the unveiling, it was a celebration of art, design and community.
Guests on the night enjoyed fine wines and gourmet hors d’oeuvres as they were treated to an array of Italian furniture that included streamlined sofas, elegant coffee tables and minimalist yet striking chairs, all designed to evoke a sense of nostalgia while fitting seamlessly into contemporary space.
The highlight of the evening was also the collaboration with interior designer Wren Loucks, founder and creative director of Be-Kin and three renowned artists, Adrian Hemming, Talia Golchin and Amanda Sarfelt, who showcased their exceptional artwork, further enriching the ambiance of the gallery. The inclusion of artworks by Adrian Hemming, Talia Golchin and Amanda Sarfelt added an extra layer of sophistication to the event. Each artist brought a unique perspective, creating a diverse yet harmonious blend of visual experiences.
Adrian Hemming, a celebrated artist known for his evocative landscapes, captures serene and contemplative moments in nature through his art. Each piece invites a moment of reflection and relaxation, offering a peaceful counterpoint to the sleek modern lines of contemporary furniture. Displayed alongside a Nicoletti 1980 leather sofa and a black sideboard by Willy Rizzo, Hemming’s landscapes add a layer of softness and tranquillity, harmonising with the space while subtly drawing the viewer into the natural beauty they depict. In addition to his traditional painting techniques, Hemming also explores innovative methods such as solar etching. This unique approach utilises the power of sunlight to create images, replacing the conventional acid bath with a more natural and environmentally friendly process.
Talia Golchin showcased her provocative artwork, “Those We Love and Loathe,” in front of a unique carousel designed by Elsie Crawford, where guests sat to admire her work. This artwork, unveiled for only the second time, offers a biting commentary on the most detested and celebrated figures of the last hundred years. Golchin aims to provoke critical thought and dialogue about the figures we idolise and vilify, highlighting the complex and often contradictory nature of human legacy. Her artwork is a compelling blend of historical reflection and modern critique, incorporating photography and digital art, enhanced by a dynamic light box that brings the collage of fifty significant figures to life.
Amanda Sarfelt exhibited the painting titled: Temperance, oil paint on canvas. This piece in particular was painted after the artist collected stones with lines that resemble figuration. This is the phenomenon of pareidolia, often replicated in her work. Amanda believes this playful process of observing the world, builds a bridge connecting the human to the natural world. The raw naturalism in the painting created a lively dialogue with the subdued elegance of the pair of white boucle armchairs designed by Adriano Piazzesi, highlighting the interplay between natural and designed elements.
Missy Decor’s new mid-century collection and the artists’ artworks are on display in the gallery until August 31, 2024. Please visit us during our opening hours or contact us directly to arrange a private viewing.
